Santa Ana & Cerro Verde Day Trip + Lake Coatepeque Hot Springs
Description
The day trip from San Salvador offers an opportunity to engage with the stunning landscapes of Cerro Verde National Park, explore Santa Ana, and unwind in the hot springs of Lake Coatepeque. Experience an all-encompassing itinerary filled with nature and culture.
Day Trip Details
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your accommodation in San Salvador, setting out on a westward drive lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Our first stop will be Cerro Verde National Park, a beautiful haven nestled within a tropical forest. Prepare to be amazed by its flora and fauna!
Once we arrive, we'll embark on an interpretive trail leading to the Cerro Verde viewpoint. Along the way, we will pause at several points to take in the majestic views of the Izalco and Santa Ana volcanoes. Notably, the Izalco volcano earned the nickname Lighthouse of the Pacific due to its nighttime activity, making it visible from afar over the ocean.
After enjoying the vistas, we will descend from the viewpoint and proceed towards Lake Coatepeque. Once prepared, you'll board a boat for a brief 15-minute ride to the hot springs. You'll have approximately 45 minutes of leisure time to relax and rejuvenate in the soothing waters.
Afterwards, we’ll head to a lakeside restaurant for a delightful meal featuring options like meat or fish paired with rice, pupusas, beans, yuca, salad, fresh fruit, and juice—an ideal way to recharge!
Next, our journey continues towards the city of Santa Ana, a captivating architectural treasure in the country's west, just 45 minutes away. A guided 1.5-hour walking tour awaits, during which we'll uncover its rich history. As we stroll through Libertad Park, we’ll admire the stunning Cathedral of Santa Ana and, schedule permitting, venture inside the church.
We will also visit the Santa Ana National Theatre, a striking example of European architectural influences, reflecting the region's golden age of coffee around 1910. Our tour will wrap up as we pass the historic Municipal Palace and explore the adjacent streets, lively with charming cafés and artisan shops.
As the day comes to a close, we'll begin our return to San Salvador, ensuring you’re dropped off at your hotel after an enriching 12-hour experience.
