Fort Samaipata Day Trip
Description
The term "Samaipata" translates from Quechua to "resting place amidst the mountains," a fitting description for this intriguing archaeological location. Our excursion to Fort Samaipata will guide you through one of Bolivia's premier tourist spots, renowned for its stunning vineyards.
Fort Samaipata Day Trip
Your adventure begins at 8 am with a hotel pickup in Santa Cruz de la Sierra as we embark on a journey to the Fort and village of Samaipata. Expect a scenic drive of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, offering picturesque vistas of the mountain range colloquially known as "The Volcano."
Upon our arrival, a guided tour lasting 40 minutes will immerse us in the rich history of the archaeological site. This exploration includes insights into the pre-Columbian architecture that characterizes the remnants of defensive, religious, and esoteric structures. We will delve into the narratives surrounding Fort Samaipata, a site that has lived through the reigns of the Chané, Inca, and Spanish civilizations.
Following the tour, we will visit the Samaipata Archaeological Museum, situated just 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the main site. This colonial edifice showcases findings from the excavations at the fort across six dedicated exhibition rooms.
Feeling hungry? Around 1 pm, we will pause for 1 hour and 30 minutes to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Post-meal, we’ll commence our return trip to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, stopping for photographs at the Las Cuevas and El Chorro waterfalls during our drive.
We expect to arrive back at your hotel in Santa Cruz around 6:30 pm.
