2-Day Trip to Cabo de la Vela
Description
Embark on a two-day adventure to Cabo de la Vela and immerse yourself in some of the most breathtaking scenery Colombia has to offer. This journey will highlight the striking contrast between the arid desert landscape and the Caribbean Sea.
Description
Day 1
We will begin our journey early at 4:30 am with a pick-up from your accommodation in Santa Marta. After boarding a comfortable vehicle, our exciting expedition commences!
A two-hour drive will bring us to Palomino, where we’ll pause to admire the snow-capped mountain ranges of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and enjoy a breakfast break.
Afterward, we’ll travel for another hour to Riohacha, reaching the town of Uribía, regarded as the indigenous capital of Colombia. This area is predominantly inhabited by the Wayúu community, whose rich heritage dates back centuries. We’ll take this opportunity to explore its fascinating history.
En route, we’ll visit the Manaure Salt Flats to observe the salt extraction ponds. Continuing our journey, we will traverse the Ahuyama desert en route to Cabo de la Vela, where we’ll relish a traditional meal at a Wayúu ranchería.
Enjoy a couple of hours of leisure time before we embark on a hike to the rainbow beach, perfect for witnessing a breathtaking sunset. In the evening, we’ll return to the ranchería for dinner and stargazing, resting comfortably in our hammocks for the night.
Day 2
The second day starts at dawn with a hearty breakfast at the ranchería, providing the energy needed for our activities!
Next, we will set off for Pilón de Azúcar and Playa Dorada. Upon arrival, a brief 10-minute walk will lead us to the summit of the Pilón, where you can gaze upon the stunning Colombian sunset from the lighthouse. Take time to absorb the tranquil atmosphere of this breathtaking locale.
Following our visit, we will return to the ranchería for a delicious lunch. Our journey will then take us back to Santa Marta, with a stop at the Malecon to shop for handcrafted artisan goods perfect for souvenirs.
This two-day journey draws to a close as we return you to your hotel in Santa Marta.
