Aracataca Day Trip
"Because even though I couldn't love him, I couldn't live without him." Such quotes underscore the significance of Gabriel García Márquez's work, One Hundred Years of Solitude, within the 20th-century literary landscape. At 8 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Santa Marta to commence our journey to this iconic literary birthplace.
Our trip, lasting approximately 90 minutes, will bring us to Aracataca. Here, García Márquez, a recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, drew inspiration for the creation of Macondo. This imaginary town serves as a backdrop for much of One Hundred Years of Solitude and embodies its own distinct universe within the realm of magical realism.
Commencing our exploration of Aracataca—or Macondo—we will visit the Telegrapher's House. This venue showcases numerous editions of García Márquez's literary works and has been recognized as a World Heritage Site. Additionally, we will stop by the birthplace of the author and the historic San José Church, where he was baptized.
As we explore the various locations in Aracataca linked to the writer, intriguing insights into García Márquez's life and works will be shared. Noteworthy sites will include the school he attended and the Municipal Library of Remedios the Beauty.
