Free Walking Tour of Santiago de Chile
We'll meet at the scheduled time at the Plaza de las Armas in Santiago de Chile, one of the liveliest areas in the Chilean capital. In front of Pedro de Valdivia's equestrian sculpture, we'll talk about the foundation of Santiago, its myths, and the key role played by this Spanish figure. Did you know this plaza historically formed part of the Inca Trail? You're sure to be surprised!
While we talk about the origins of the capital, we'll pass by its most representative buildings: City Hall, the National History Museum, and the Santiago Central Post Office. We'll explore its history, architecture, and key landmarks that have significantly influenced Chile.
We'll also tell you about the first Cathedral of Santiago, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1647, giving rise to one of the most famous urban legends of Santiago: El Cristo de Mayo.
Following chronologically the history of the country, we'll walk next to the Supreme Court of Justice, the old National Congress, and the Palacio de la Moneda. The latter is the seat of government, where the President of the Republic also serves. We'll also talk about the causes and consequences of the 1973 coup d'état.
Our walking tour will take us to the beautiful Santiago Stock Exchange and its emblematic New York Street. Then, we will admire the church of the Augustinians, while we tell you the story of the Chilean Quintrala, one of the unsolved mysteries of this capital.
Finally, we will say goodbye after 2 hours discovering the most interesting places in Santiago de Chile.
