Museum of Memory and Human Rights Tour
Description
The recent past of Chile has been profoundly influenced by the Pinochet regime and the subsequent return to democracy. Experience this pivotal chapter in the nation's history through a guided visit to the Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Santiago.
Tour of the Museum of Memory and Human Rights
Our meeting point will be the designated area at the esplanade of the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, a landmark institution located in Santiago de Chile. This museum, dedicated to themes of peace and memory, serves as an essential venue to grasp the events that transpired in Chile from 1973 to 1990.
During the tour, we will explore all 11 exhibitions within the Museum of Memory, unveiling the intricate details surrounding the Pinochet dictatorship: from the inception of the coup d'état to the struggle of guerrilla factions, and the transition of power thereafter. Numerous intriguing stories and insights await as we navigate through the museum's diverse displays.
Utilizing photographs, firsthand accounts, and multimedia presentations, we aim to comprehend the lived experiences of Chileans during the dictatorship era. The museum also pays tribute to Salvador Allende, renowned as the first democratically elected socialist president on a global scale.
Throughout our visit, expect to encounter disturbing artifacts, including a metal cross discovered at a mass grave and a ladder that once belonged to the torture facilities operated by the Chilean secret police.
The concluding part of our tour will lead us to the outer courtyard, where we will take our leave after immersing ourselves in two hours of profound historical reflection.
