Lastarria & Santa Lucía Hill Tour
Description
Embark on a captivating exploration of the Lastarria neighborhood, where you'll encounter an array of monuments, fountains, and hidden gems. Our journey will also take us up the lush slopes of Santa Lucia Hill, an iconic green space within the heart of Santiago.
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we will gather at the Plaza de Armas in Santiago, positioned near the equestrian statue of Don Pedro de Valdivia. Here, the adventure begins as we set out to uncover two of Santiago's most vibrant areas.
We will kick off our journey by delving into the founding history of Santiago and the significant role of Doña Inés Suárez, the first Spanish woman to arrive in Chile. Her courageous defense in the face of an attack on September 11, 1541, has marked her as an important character in the nation's story.
Proceeding through the bustling streets, our next stop will be the Municipal Theater, a site that once housed the Antigua Real Universidad de San Felipe, recognized as the oldest university in the country.
Our adventure continues on Santa Lucia Hill, where we will take a moment to appreciate the mural honoring the renowned Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1945. We will then ascend the hill via the beautiful Neptune's Terrace staircase, culminating in a visit to the magnificent fountain dedicated to the sea god.
As we climb, prepare to be awed by the stunning panoramic vistas of Santiago de Chile, including picturesque views of the Castillo Hidalgo. Be sure to have your camera ready as every turn offers a perfect shot! Gradually, we will make our way into the Lastarria neighborhood, renowned as a cultural hub of Chile, and we'll explain its significance.
As we wander through Lastarria, we will pass the Veracruz church, the Gabriela Mistral cultural center, and the University Palace, the most notable and oldest structure of the Catholic University of Chile.
In conclusion, our tour will wrap up between two and two hours and 15 minutes after it begins, marking the end of an enriching journey.
