Description
Embark on a journey through the captivating Lastarria neighborhood, where you can uncover its remarkable monuments, charming fountains, and intriguing secrets. This experience also includes a visit to Santa Lucia Hill, a beloved green space within the Chilean capital.
Tour Details
At the designated hour, you will meet at the entrance of the Santa Lucía metro station, conveniently located next to the National Library. Are you prepared to delve into one of Santiago's most picturesque locales?
To begin, we’ll dive into the story of Santiago's establishment by Pedro de Valdivia in 1541. Once you grasp the historical context, we will ascend Santa Lucía Hill. Interestingly, this site served as a stone quarry until the late 1800s.
As we start our climb, we will discover beautiful European-influenced architecture alongside remnants of Chile’s colonial history. During our ascent, take a moment to admire the stunning panoramic views of Santiago, including the historic Castillo Hidalgo and the renowned Terraza Neptuno, among other historical landmarks.
Once we have taken in the breathtaking vistas, we’ll descend from Santa Lucía Hill and begin our exploration of the Lastarria neighborhood, widely regarded as one of the pivotal cultural, culinary, and tourist destinations in Chile. We will uncover what makes this area a favorite for locals and travelers alike!
Wandering through its delightful streets, we will encounter the Veracruz Church, constructed on the site where, according to legend, Santiago's founder once resided. Additionally, we’ll pass by the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM) and the University Palace, a historical and iconic structure of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
Our walking tour will culminate after approximately one hour and forty-five minutes at this final location.
