Santiago Tour + La Moneda Palace Changing of the Guard
Description
Embark on a complimentary walking tour in Santiago, where we will explore the vibrant heart of the Chilean capital and witness the Changing of the Presidential Guard at La Moneda Palace. This is an experience not to be overlooked!
Tour Overview
Our journey commences at the specified hour at the Cripta de Bernardo O’Higgins. Are you prepared to uncover the fascinating history of this city?
Our first destination will be the presidential palace of Chile. We will pause at the grand façade of the structure to observe the guard change of the carabineros at La Moneda Palace.
Following this traditional ceremony, which has been in practice since 1851, we will remain outside La Moneda to delve into its storied past. Did you know this majestic palace originates from the colonial period? We will also reflect on significant events like the 1973 coup d'état and the tragic end of President Salvador Allende.
The tour will proceed through a selection of key sites in Santiago, including the Palacio de los Tribunales de Justicia. A stop at the former National Congress will also be included, which was shut down in 1973 by the regime of Augusto Pinochet.
Next, we will approach the bustling Plaza de Armas, where we will uncover the city’s Inca heritage. The route will also allow us to admire the façade of the Cathedral while exploring its chronicles and hidden stories.
After an enriching tour lasting around 2 hours, we will conclude our journey beside the equestrian statue of Pedro de Valdivia.
