Lugo, Ribadeo & Beach of the Cathedrals Day Trip
Description
Explore the renowned Beach of the Cathedrals and its stunning rock formations on this superb excursion from Santiago de Compostela. In addition, you will visit the historic cities of Lugo and Ribadeo!
Day Trip Overview
Our journey begins at the Capilla del Pilar, where we will depart from Santiago de Compostela heading towards the northeast. After a pleasant drive, we arrive in the city of Lugo, celebrated for its remarkably well-preserved ancient walls, which extend over 7,000 feet.
During our stay here, we will embark on a guided exploration of Lugo's historic center lasting an hour and a half. Among the town's notable landmarks is the cathedral of Santa María, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that took over a century to complete.
Additionally, we will visit the Roman wall that encircles the old city, recognized as one of the finest-preserved Roman walls in the Iberian Peninsula.
Following our Lugo tour, we will progress to the second highlight of the excursion: the stunning Aguas Santas beach, more widely known as the Cathedrals beach. This title originates from the beach's unique rock formations reminiscent of the flying buttresses commonly seen in Gothic architecture.
We'll have the opportunity to walk along the beach, taking advantage of the low tide to pass beneath the arches that rise over 100 feet high. As you wander, listen to the waves crashing against these colossal formations. This remarkable location has been designated as a Natural Monument and is often recognized as one of the finest beaches in Europe.
Our final stop will be the charming town of Ribadeo, situated near the Cathedrals beach. Here, we will admire the impressive neoclassical facade of the Casa Consistorial and other significant landmarks, as well as the vibrant port. You will also have free time to savor the delightful Galician cuisine.
After exploring Ribadeo, we will board the bus for our return to the original departure point in Santiago de Compostela, where this memorable excursion will conclude.
