Ribeira Sacra + Allariz Day Trip
Description
This guided excursion to Ribeira Sacra and Allariz offers stunning scenery, deep-rooted history, and a chance to explore one of the most charming villages in Orense. Discover the most ancient monastery in Galicia and take in a serene boat journey on the Sil River.
Tour Overview
We begin at the entrance of the Capilla del Pilar. From there, we will board a bus and leave Santiago de Compostela behind to embark on our excursion to Ribeira Sacra.
Our journey will take us through the provinces of La Coruña, Pontevedra, and Orense as we make our way to the embarkation point: Santo Estevo de Ribas de Sil Pier. Let's set off!
Once on board, we will enjoy a peaceful cruise through the Sil Canyons, a dramatic gorge that represents the essence of the Ribeira Sacra. Alongside the serene waters, we will admire the region’s picturesque vineyards and abundant oak and chestnut forests.
After approximately one and a half hours of sailing, we will disembark at the pier and continue by bus to a viewpoint overlooking the Cañones de Sil. Here, we will be greeted by breathtaking panoramic vistas of the Sil River and the towering cliffs that embrace it.
This area is renowned not only for its natural beauty but also for its historical significance. A visit to the monastery of San Pedro de Rocas will provide us with a deeper understanding of the region's past, as this is one of the earliest monasteries in Galicia, with roots dating back to the 6th century. Throughout our visit, we will unveil captivating narratives about monastic life and explore intriguing aspects of the traditional trades found in Ribeira Sacra.
Next, we will make our way to Allariz, celebrated as one of the most scenic villages in Orense. Here, you will have an hour and a half to savor lunch at local eateries, followed by a guided exploration of the medieval village.
We will wander through plazas, cross bridges, and admire the characteristic architecture of Allariz while recounting its storied history. Additionally, we will share which notable TV shows and films have been shot in this beautiful region.
After an enriching and full day of 11 hours, we will conclude our journey and return to the starting point.
