Mexican Independence Towns & Cities Day Trip
Description
Embark on a journey through the historical landscape of Mexico with this engaging day trip, where you'll explore significant sites linked to the country’s quest for freedom. This experience includes visits to Dolores Hidalgo, Atotonilco, and San Miguel de Allende, all pivotal locations in the narrative of Mexican independence.
Details of the Day Trip
We will convene at Calle Independencia, number 64C, near the Plaza de Armas to kick off our journey at the scheduled time. Together, we will follow the historic path of Ignacio Pérez, known as the "Messenger of Independence," who raced to alert the Corregidora about the Spanish discovery of the insurgent movement in New Spain.
After a scenic 2-hour drive, our first destination will be Dolores Hidalgo, recognized as the birthplace of the Independence Movement on September 16, 1810. Here, we will explore the Parish of Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores, the residence of Jesuit Miguel Hidalgo, and the vibrant main square. Each site is steeped in profound historical significance!
Our journey continues to Atotonilco, renowned for its Sanctuary of Atotonilco, a stunning Baroque church adorned with striking murals, often referred to as the "Sistine Chapel of Mexico." Did you know the Virgin of Guadalupe played a significant role in the insurgent movement here? You'll uncover that story during this part of the tour! Following our exploration, enjoy 1 hour of free time for lunch.
Our final destination will be San Miguel de Allende, celebrated for its tribute to Ignacio Allende, a key figure in the independence movement. We will visit the museum home of the Allende family and take in the beauty of the iconic Gothic church of San Miguel.
In conclusion, we will return to the meeting point in Querétaro, wrapping up this immersive tour lasting between 8 to 10 hours.
