Seoul Hwaseong Fortress & Traditional Korean Village Day Trip

Join us on an engaging day trip to Hwaseong Fortress, where we will delve into one of the most impressive landmarks of the Joseon dynasty and meander through a traditional Korean village. This is an experience you won't want to skip!

Activity Overview

We will convene at the designated meeting point in Seoul at the specified hour. Once we are all assembled, we will embark on a bus journey towards Suwon and a traditional Korean village. Prepare to immerse yourself in the rich local culture!

After approximately 1.5 hours of travel, our first destination will be a traditional village located in Yongin, within Gyeonggi Province. Here, we will spend 3 hours engaging with Korean folklore and exploring the ancient traditions of the Joseon period.

Following this, we will proceed to Hwaseong Fortress. Are you familiar with Jeongjo? This king of the Joseon dynasty commissioned the fortress over two centuries ago. Throughout our exploration, we will navigate the various sections of this historical site and uncover its intriguing stories.

Remarkably, despite its relatively brief history, the fortress was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Our visit will also include a stroll through Suwon Nammun Market, recognized as one of the oldest markets in Korea, where you will have an hour of free time to savor local delicacies.

Ultimately, we will return to Seoul, concluding our adventure after approximately 10 to 11 hours.

Summer Scheduling

During the months of June, July, and August, the day trip will be held in the afternoon to enhance comfort and avoid peak heat. Additionally, the itinerary may change based on the specific weekday:

Wednesday Itinerary

For those participating in the summer Wednesday tour, the following stops will be included:

• Gyeonggi Gugak Center: Experience traditional arts through a live performance, a folk song class, and engaging traditional games
• Korean Folk Village: Journey through the customs of the Joseon era
• Suwon Hwaseong Fortress: Stroll its illuminated walls as the sun sets

Saturday Itinerary

If you opt for a summer Saturday, the focus will be on the everyday life of Suwon:

• Suwon Nammun Market: Spend time discovering one of Korea's oldest and most genuine markets
• Suwon Hwaseong Fortress: Enjoy a guided exploration of this architectural marvel
• Korean Folk Village: Conclude the day by uncovering Korean history and folklore in the late afternoon

During June to August, the pickup schedule is as follows:

Gyeonggi Gugak Center Introduction

The visit to the Gyeonggi Gugak Center will occur on Wednesdays from April 15 to November 11, 2026 (extending beyond summer), thus adding approximately 1 hour to the overall itinerary.
