Harding Ice Field Trekking
Description
Embarking on this hiking expedition through Harding Icefield, you will immerse yourself in one of the most stunning and iconic landscapes in Alaska. Your journey will be surrounded by the pristine environment of Kenai Fjords National Park, culminating in an unforgettable view of a sprawling icy landscape.
Trekking Information
Our adventure will commence at the Seward Highway facilities where we’ll gather for an exciting day of high-altitude hiking. A brief safety briefing and overview of the trail will set the stage for our exploration, followed by putting on our hiking boots and preparing for the trek. Ready to set off, explorers?
This trail through Harding Icefield invites you to discover Alaska’s vibrant biodiversity across diverse terrains. We will first walk through lush coastal forests and vibrant alpine meadows, which may be painted with the seasonal colors of local flora depending on when you join us.
As we ascend the steep mountain pathways, the verdant woods will transform into rocky and glacial terrains. Our guide will provide engaging insights about the region's geology, history, and the fragile ecosystem of this Arctic area.
Keep an eye out for the native wildlife along the way, including mountain goats, marmots, and even black bears that roam close to our route.
The pinnacle of our adventure will be reached at the viewpoints overlooking the Harding Icefield.
A breathtaking, vast expanse of ice and glaciers will unfold before you, leaving an unforgettable impression. Did you know this icefield spans 483 km² (186 mi²)? It is one of only 4 remaining icefields in the United States, making it a remarkable natural spectacle.
Once we have absorbed the beauty of this extraordinary landscape, we will start our descent along the same path, relishing a fresh perspective of the Kenai valleys.
Ultimately, we will conclude our trek by returning to our starting point after approximately 8 hours of adventurous exploration. Looking forward to our next encounter!
