Singapore’s Historic Chinatown Walking Tour
Description
Join us on this guided exploration of Chinatown, where you can immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Singapore's oldest district. Prepare to indulge in some traditional local dishes!
Description
At the designated time, we will gather at exit A of the MRT station at Raffles Place to commence this walking tour through Chinatown. Our adventure kicks off with a visit to the Sky Garden in CapitaSpring, known as the second tallest structure in Singapore, offering us breathtaking views of the city skyline.
Next, we will stroll towards the Temple of Yueh Hai Ching, the oldest Chinese temple in Singapore, established in 1819. Here, you will have the opportunity to admire its stunning carvings and masks, while discovering the beliefs and rituals of the first Chinese settlers.
Our journey will take us along Pekin Street, where we will explore the courtyard of a historic Chinese boys' school and pass by the Fuk Tak Chi Museum, once a temple devoted to the God of Prosperity.
Following this, we will visit Thian Hock Keng, the most significant Hokkien temple in Singapore, constructed from materials that were transported from China. Sailors historically came here to express their gratitude to the Goddess of the Sea for their safe travels. Here, you can find a relic of Buddha's tooth along with gifts presented by the Qing emperor.
After a delightful lunch at one of Singapore's oldest noodle establishments, we will continue our exploration of traditional craftsmanship in Chinatown. We will visit a tea shop, a pastry store, and an ointment shop, as well as view murals created by the talented artist Yip Yew Chong, which capture scenes from the past.
This guided exploration of Chinatown will conclude after approximately 3.5 hours of engaging sightseeing.
