Description

Explore the captivating history and artistic heritage of New Town, Stockholm through this complimentary walking tour of the modern district of the Swedish capital.

Tour Overview

Your experience will commence in Gustavo Adolfo Torg, situated in front of the Royal Swedish Opera, where you will meet your guide fluent in English. This free walking tour of Stockholm's New Town will initiate with an insight into the Vasa royal family's significant role during the 17th century in shaping the city.

After establishing the historical context, we will proceed to Kungsträdgården, allowing us to appreciate notable landmarks, including the Grand Hôtel, the Royal Palace, and the National Museum. During our stroll through the park, we will delve into Sweden's historical narratives, covering the rise of the empire and its eventual decline due to Russian conflicts.

We will make our way to the Synagogue, pausing to discuss religious aspects and the intriguing history of Raoul Wallenberg. Following this, we will visit Nybroplan, exploring the modern facets of the city and learning about the development of the Östermalm district. An overview of Djurgarden Island will also be included at this juncture. From there, we will navigate to Normalmstorg Square to unveil the origin of the term 'Stockholm Syndrome'.

Continuing through Biblioteksgatan Street, we will arrive at Humlegarden Park, where the Royal Library and the statue of Linnaeus, the pioneer of taxonomy, await. In this location, we will highlight Sweden's substantial contributions to scientific advancement.

Our journey will then lead us through the Kungstornets Tower Tunnel, which signifies the entry into the business district, home to the earliest skyscrapers in Europe. The tour will conclude at Hotorget, a vibrant area known for the Hay Market and its lively outdoor stalls. After appreciating the stunning exterior of the Stockholm Concert Hall, where the Nobel Prize ceremony takes place, we will wrap up our exploration after an enriching duration of 2.5 hours.
