Gamla Stan Guided Tour
Description
Embark on a journey through the captivating streets of Stockholm as we delve into the historical essence of Gamla Stan. This immersive experience will take us back to life in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Tour Overview
We will convene at the designated hour at Munkbrohamnen pier, conveniently located near the Gamla Stan metro station, to commence our guided exploration of Stockholm's Old Town. Our adventure begins with an overview of the city’s present-day landscape, followed by a stroll to Riddarholmen, known as the Island of the Knights.
Throughout the journey, we will delve into the rich history of notable structures, including the Royal Palace of Stockholm. This Baroque-style palace was reconstructed following a devastating fire in 1697 that claimed the original castle.
Our next stop will be the Nobel Prize Museum, which commemorates the life and contributions of Alfred Nobel. Located within the historic Stockholm Stock Exchange building, this site is significant not only for its past but also as the base of the Swedish Academy, which selects Nobel Prize laureates in Literature.
We will also take a moment to appreciate Stockholm Cathedral, renowned for its iconic wooden depiction of Saint George and the Dragon, a powerful emblem of Sweden’s triumph over Denmark.
Furthermore, our itinerary includes a visit to the German Church, reflecting the legacy of German merchants in Stockholm's trade history. Standing at 96 meters (315 ft), it is the tallest edifice in the old town and continues to serve its congregation in German.
At the end of our engaging 2-hour tour, we will conclude our journey at the original meeting point.
