VASA Museum Tour
Description
What was sailing life like in the 17th century? Uncover the answers during our guided visit to the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, where we will explore an historic Swedish warship.
Description
At the specified time, we will gather at the main entrance of the Vasa Museum to embark on a guided exploration of one of Stockholm's most renowned attractions.
The journey will commence with an overview of Sweden’s maritime history during the 17th century. The Vasa ship, a remarkable war vessel, was constructed between 1626 and 1628 on the orders of King Gustavus Adolphus.
Designed to be a symbol of the Swedish Armada's strength, this wooden ship tragically sank on its inaugural voyage on August 10, 1628, merely 300 meters (985 feet) from its launch point in Stockholm. What went wrong? Interestingly, it wasn’t until the mid-20th century that the ship could be recovered.
While at the Vasa Museum, we will also view 19th-century maps that were utilized to pinpoint the ship's location and discover the initiatives that led to its recovery at the end of 1961. Today, the Vasa stands as the most well-preserved ship from the 17th century in the world. We will take in its intricate details and gain insights into the daily life aboard during that period.
After 2 hours of exploration, this guided tour will conclude at the museum’s exit.
