Details of the Tour

Day 1: Sousse - El Djem - Matmata - Douz

Our experience starts with pickup from your hotel in Sousse. Once everyone is ready, we will depart from the beautiful Mediterranean shores, heading towards the heart of Tunisia.

After approximately one hour, we will arrive at the El Djem Amphitheatre, known as one of the most well-preserved Roman amphitheaters globally. Here, we will explore its grand seating, designed for up to 35,000 spectators, and envision the exciting events that once took place featuring gladiators and exotic animals.

Our journey continues to Matmata, characterized by its unique, crater-like landscape where the Berbers constructed underground dwellings for protection against extreme temperatures.

We will tour a typical troglodyte dwelling and visit the renowned Sidi Idriss Hotel, known as the filming site for one of the Star Wars films. Lunch will be provided at the hotel’s restaurant.

Post-lunch, we will proceed for about 1 hour and 20 minutes to Douz, the entrance to the Sahara Desert. Upon arrival, we will check into a desert camp, and you can either enjoy the mesmerizing sunset or opt for a camel ride, mimicking the leisurely pace of traditional desert traders.

The evening concludes with a Bedouin dinner by the fireside, accompanied by music and the enchanting ambiance of the star-filled sky, before retiring to your tent for the night.

Day 2: Douz - Chott El Djerid - Chebika - Kairouan - Sousse

After an early breakfast, our journey begins towards Chott El Djerid, the largest salt lake in Tunisia. Here, the shimmering mirages of the vast salt lake in the Maghreb with its pink surface provide breathtaking views.

Next, we will explore the verdant Chebika Oasis, a historic Roman retreat now filled with palm trees and flowing water—a remarkable oasis in the desert. We will enjoy approximately 1 hour of hiking through this stunning area.

After dining at a local restaurant, we will head to Kairouan, a city established in 670 AD and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you will have the chance to admire the impressive Great Mosque from the outside and roam the quaint streets of the city.

Our trip will conclude with a return to Sousse, aiming to arrive at your hotel around 5:30 PM.

Accommodation Information

This tour includes 1 night in a desert camp in Douz. The tents are equipped with electricity for charging devices and a shared facility containing bathrooms and showers.

You will not be required to share your tent with others. Available options include single, double, triple, and family tents. Additional charges apply for single occupancy. Children aged 1 to 12 must share a room with their parents or guardians on a rollaway bed.

Meal Options

• Day 1 Lunch: Brik (fried pastry filled with meat, tuna, or vegetables seasoned with spices), couscous, salad, and seasonal fruit.
• Day 1 Dinner: Brik, meat prepared in a traditional gargoulette style, salad, and seasonal fruit.
• Day 2 Breakfast: Eggs, dates, butter, jam, cheese, sand-baked bread, milk, coffee, and juice.
• Day 2 Lunch: Chicken or turkey escalope, salad, and seasonal fruit.

Vegetarian choices are available. Beverages are not included and must be purchased separately.

New Year's Eve Celebration in the Sahara

On December 31st, we will ring in the New Year amid the enchanting desert backdrop. The night will commence with a performance featuring knights and camels, reminiscent of the historic caravan routes.

Enjoy a cocktail beneath the stars, followed by a special New Year's Eve feast inspired by Berber dishes. Traditional music and a DJ will enliven the celebration, culminating in a breathtaking fireworks display illuminating the desert sands to usher in 2026.
