Description
We will gather at Porta Messina at the scheduled time to begin this engaging free tour of Taormina, the jewel of the Ionian Sea. During our exploration, we will immerse ourselves in the city’s rich history and visit some of its most significant monuments!
As we traverse the streets of Taormina, we will discover a variety of architectural styles that showcase the influence of numerous civilizations that have shaped this region. From the Greeks and Romans to the Arabs, Normans, and Angevins, each group has left a distinct mark on this enchanting Sicilian coastal town.
Our journey will lead us to examine the exterior of the Odeon Theater, constructed under the direction of Emperor Augustus in the 2nd century. We will also admire historical medieval buildings like the Corvaja Palace, visit the Church of Santa Catalina, and enjoy a leisurely walk through IX April Square.
Additionally, we will take time to appreciate the iconic Taormina Cathedral as well as its esteemed Greek theater, a landmark that has brought renown to the city since it was established in the 3rd century B.C.
After an hour and a half filled with enriching exploration, we will wrap up our complimentary tour of Taormina, concluding near Porta Catania.
