At the agreed time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Teresina. Following a brief 15-minute journey, you will find yourself in a captivating landscape that appears unchanged by time. Welcome to the Teresina Fossil Forest!

This location, positioned alongside the Poti River within the urban expanse, features petrified tree trunks from the Permian period. These astonishing relics are approximately 280 million years old, pre-dating even the dinosaurs. Quite remarkable, isn’t it?

During our exploration, we will observe fossils preserved in their original growth orientation, a rare quality that aids researchers in reconstructing the layout of this ancient prehistoric forest. We will also discover how the gradual process of mineralization transformed organic materials into stone, allowing their forms to endure through millennia. This ecosystem flourished when continents were unified as the supercontinent Gondwana.

We will stroll along interpretive trails and informative panels that highlight the scientific significance of this area, which has been designated a Natural Monument.
