Why Discover Roca Tarpeya?

Nestled on a distinctive promontory overlooking the Tagus River, Roca Tarpeya is the location where sculptor Victorio Macho established his home and workshop back in 1953.

This charming edifice today houses the Victorio Macho Museum, operated by the Royal Foundation of Toledo. With your entry to the permanent exhibition, an audio guide in English will lead you through various rooms, showcasing significant works from this modern sculptor, including pieces like La madre (The Mother) and Mi hermano Marcelo (My Brother Marcelo).

The collection features portraits of notable individuals like Marañón and Unamuno, in addition to sketches and replicas of monuments found across Spain and a large part of Latin America.

Within the former studio of Victorio Macho, known as the ‘tallerón’, visitors will find the Rafael Canogar Space, dedicated to this abstract artist from Toledo. Here, you can see the exhibition Proyecto I: La construcción de un lenguaje, translating to ‘the construction of a language’, which consists of approximately 30 paintings and sculptures. Additionally, the same space features the documentary "Rafael Canogar. El amor por la pintura", produced by the UNED Channel.

The museum also boasts the Roca Tarpeya garden, a serene retreat nestled within Toledo's Jewish quarter, where you can admire several sculptures from both Macho and Canogar, while enjoying stunning views of the San Martín bridge, the Tagus river, and local tobacco fields. A visit to the museum’s viewpoint is also recommended for breathtaking panoramic vistas.

The audio-guided experience lasts around 40 minutes, but you are welcome to linger in the museum as long as you wish.
