Description
Join a guided walking tour of Toronto’s Discovery District, exploring streets rich in art, architecture, and history while uncovering the stories that shaped the city!
Activity Details
At the appointed time, we'll meet at Nathan Phillips Square, an ideal starting point for our guided tour of the Discovery District. Here, the history of this iconic square and the emblematic tower of Toronto City Hall will be explained, alongside the significance of the gardens surrounding the building.
Next, we'll proceed to College Place, which once housed Toronto's third general hospital, recognized as the most advanced hospital in the world during the early 20th century. During our walk, we will discuss how this center propelled the advancement of medicine in the city, presenting stories about the doctors and innovators who contributed to its success.
We'll continue our journey at Queen's Park, a park that encapsulates over 150 years of Ontario's history. Among its features are statues of key historical figures and an impressive building known for its distinctive architecture. While admiring the facade, we will share insights into how the province of Ontario was formed and evolved.
Our next stop will be the University of Toronto, one of the oldest and most prestigious campuses in North America. Here, we will discuss the university's role during World War I and its connection to significant sacrifices made to safeguard Canada's future.
Lastly, we will arrive at the Philosopher's Walk, a scenic path that weaves through the University of Toronto and is rich in both beauty and history. This route was designed to connect students with art, music, history, and culture, and we'll delve into its significance during the tour.
To conclude our experience, we'll part ways near the Royal Museum of Ontario after a comprehensive 2-hour exploration of the Discovery District.
