Tours Free Walking Tour
Description
Medieval buildings, timber-framed houses, and charming corners highlight this free walking tour of Tours, one of the most beautiful cities in the Loire Valley.
Itinerary
At the designated time, we will start our free walking tour of the city of Tours from the entrance of the Train Station.
From this emblematic 19th-century building, known in French as Gare de Tours, we will head to the Hôtel de Ville, the City Hall of Tours. This monumental gem from the late 19th century was designed by the renowned architect Victor Laloux. After admiring the elegant exterior decoration of the building, we will proceed to the Basilica of Saint Martin of Tours to see from the outside the temple where the remains of the city's patron rest. We will also view its iconic Torre Charlemagne.
The next stop will be at the Place Plumereau, undoubtedly the most beautiful square in Tours. This location is particularly noted for its lovely 15th-century timber-framed houses and the lively atmosphere of its restaurants and terrace cafés.
We will continue our route alongside the Maison de Tristan l'Hermite, an architectural gem, and the hidden church of King Louis XI. The next stop will be in front of the Hôtel Gouin, a Renaissance palace that houses the Archaeological Museum of Tours.
This building contrasts with the Musée Compagnonnage, the Centre de Création Contemporaine, and the Abbey of Saint Julian, which are located right next door. Afterward, we will pass by the Palais de Commerce and the house of the craftsman who forged the armor of Joan of Arc.
Finally, after a two-hour walking tour, we will conclude the free tour at the Wilson Bridge, which offers magnificent views of the Loire River.
