Embarking on this day trip to Taormina from Tropea, we will journey from Calabria to Sicily, seamlessly traversing the Strait of Messina, commencing from Villa San Giovanni to explore one of the most enchanting towns along the Ionian Sea.

If you are contemplating how to spend a day in Tropea, this excursion will unveil one of Sicily's remarkable treasures. We will gather at Largo S. Michele 8-9, where we will board a vehicle for a picturesque 1.5-hour journey to Villa San Giovanni. Prepare to be captivated by the scenic Calabrian coastline and the stunning vistas over the Tyrrhenian Sea!

Upon reaching Villa San Giovanni, we will embark on a ferry to cross the Strait of Messina. This crossing, lasting approximately 30 minutes, will undoubtedly be a highlight of the day, presenting one of the most visually striking scenes. This narrow body of water acts as the natural boundary between Calabria and Sicily, serving as a crucial maritime route in the Mediterranean.

Once we arrive in Messina, our overland travel will continue for about 50 minutes to Taormina, elegantly situated on a natural terrace overlooking the Ionian Sea. We will drop you off at Porta Messina, one of the historic gateways to the town, granting you 4 hours of leisure time to explore.

We suggest wandering along Corso Umberto, the main thoroughfare of the town, adorned with majestic palaces, medieval architecture, blooming balconies, skilled artisan shops, upscale boutiques, and cafés overflowing with charm.

Taormina has attracted Greeks, Romans, aristocrats, literary figures, and travelers on the Grand Tour throughout its storied past. Its elevated position on Monte Tauro has historically afforded it a significant defensive advantage.
