Trip Overview

Day 1: Tunis – Kairouan – Gafsa – Tozeur

Our journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Tunis at the arranged time, setting off towards the alluring south. After a scenic drive of 2.5 hours, we will visit Kairouan, where we will immerse ourselves for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours in its magnificent Mosque and the remarkable Aghlabid Basins. Witness the two singular polygonal sinks and the expertly engineered buttresses designed to manage high water pressure—an awe-inspiring sight!

Post-exploration, we will proceed to Gafsa for lunch at the Hotel Gafsa Palace 5*, where a delightful menu awaits you, featuring salad, soup, brik, and your choice of meat or chicken, accompanied by mineral water.

Later in the afternoon, we will arrive in the picturesque Tozeur, an oasis nestled deep in the desert after a 4-hour trip. Here, we will check into a comfortable 4-star hotel, where you can unwind. As evening falls, indulge in a buffet dinner that is sure to please!

Day 2: Tozeur – Chebika – Tamerza – Mides – Ong Jemel – Douz

After a hearty breakfast featuring coffee, milk, eggs, bread, cheese, and juice, we will embark towards the natural wonders of south-western Tunisia. In just under an hour, we will reach the Chebika waterfalls, dedicating about an hour to explore this oasis that appears like a mirage among the rugged mountains.

Next, we'll visit Tamerza, another stunning oasis, for a 30-minute exploration before heading to the canyons of Mides, a striking natural formation carved by the flowing waters.

Continuing our adventure, we'll venture into the desert to discover Ong Jemel, a location pivotal to Star Wars, where we will spend 2 hours admiring the unique rock formations and feeling transported to another galaxy.

Following our exploration, we will return to Tozeur for lunch, enjoying a traditional menu that includes soup, salad, brik, couscous, and fresh fruit, complemented by a soothing mint tea. Energized, we will set our sights on Douz, the entrance to the Sahara Desert, arriving after a 2.5-hour journey. Along the way, we will cross the mesmerizing salt lake of Chott el Djerid, showcasing otherworldly landscapes.

Upon our arrival in Douz, we will check into a desert campsite, where a memorable night beneath the stars awaits. Dinner will feature gargoulette, a dish of meat cooked in clay pots, accompanied by sand bread and fresh fruit, followed by an evening around the fire accompanied by the sounds of Berber drums—a truly enchanting experience!

Day 3: Douz – Matmata – El Djem – Tunis

Following breakfast at the campsite, which includes sand bread, dates, olive oil, honey, and other local specialties, we will journey toward Matmata. After approximately 1.5 hours, we will arrive in this remarkable town known for its troglodyte dwellings, carved directly into the rock and still inhabited by locals—an architectural marvel!

We will tour one of these unique homes to gain insight into the Berber way of life before enjoying a lunch of couscous, accompanied by soup, salad, seasonal fruit, and a concluding mint tea.

Our final destination will be the breathtaking Roman amphitheatre of El Djem, renowned as one of the best preserved in the world and the third-largest in the Roman Empire. Truly a sight to behold!

We will then make our way back to Tunis, which will take approximately 5 hours. Expect to arrive at your accommodation between 3 and 5 pm, concluding our adventure on a high note.

Accommodation During the Trip

This experience includes two nights of lodging at:

• The first night will be spent at the Ksar Rouge 4-star hotel in Tozeur. Rates are per person in either a double or triple room.
• The second night is to be enjoyed at a campsite in the Douz Desert, featuring haima tents equipped with electricity for charging devices and shared sanitation facilities.

Your tent will not be shared with strangers under any circumstances. Options for single, double, triple, or family tents are available. A single supplement applies for individual reservations or if any group member wishes to have a tent solo.

Children between the ages of 2-12 must share a room with parents or companions and will be provided with an extra bed.
