Tunja Food + History Tour
Description
The essence of this Tunja tour intertwines rich history and culinary delights, inviting you to explore the stunning capital of Boyacá, Colombia from beginning to end.
Highlights
Your adventure starts with a pick-up from your hotel in Tunja at the designated time, marking the beginning of our exploration of Boyacá’s charming capital, famously known as the "Cradle and workshop of freedom."
Our journey will commence at Bolívar Square, where you will admire the stunning façade of the Cathedral of Santiago. Adjacent to this historic structure is the House-Museum of Gonzalo Suárez Rendón, where we will uncover the legacy of the Spanish conqueror who established Tunja on August 6, 1593.
Next, we will visit the House-Museum of Don Juan de Vargas, dedicated to another notable figure related to the colonial history of Tunja. After delving into this fascinating narrative, a delightful pause awaits as we head to a restaurant to savor a traditional Bayocanese lunch, consisting of a starter, a choice of meat or fish for the main course, and a beverage to replenish our energy.
Post-lunch, our exploration continues towards the Forest of the Republic, a serene park where we will observe the Martyr's Wall and hear tales of Tunja’s prominent figures. Following this, you’ll visit the Viewpoint of Freedom, also known as Bolívar's Rock, offering breathtaking panoramic vistas of Tunja.
Our final destination will be the Battle of Boyacá Bridge, a significant site commemorating the battle that was pivotal in achieving the independence of the Viceroyalty of New Granada. Here, we will learn about its historical significance before concluding our tour back in the heart of Tunja.
The complete experience is anticipated to last approximately 7 hours.
