Turbaco Free Walking Tour
Description
Tour Overview
We will convene at the principal square of Turbaco at the designated hour to kick off our free exploration of this historically rich Colombian town. Prepare to uncover the significant legacy of the Yurbaco people!
Our itinerary includes a visit to the Church of Santa Catalina de Alejandría, a colonial structure that preserves its original exterior, serving as a testament to the area's rich spiritual and cultural integration. Following this, we will make a stop at the Yurbaco Monument, where insights will be shared about the indigenous community, which continues to uphold its traditions.
As we continue, we will reach the Republican House, a symbol of the post-independence period that now functions as the Town Hall. We will also explore the Yurbaco Archaeological Museum, housing genuine artifacts that illustrate the region's pre-Hispanic heritage. You will be astonished by the cultural treasures preserved in this quaint museum!
Towards the conclusion of our tour, participants will have the chance to taste a traditional local beverage and visit a local artisan’s workshop. Depending on availability, you might meet a master hat maker crafting straw designs by hand, a painter adorning wooden panels, or an artist utilizing cold porcelain. Each artisan will share details about their creative journey and the traditional methods that uphold Turbaco's crafting culture. This experience honors both the historical context and the vibrant creativity ongoing in the community.
As the 2-hour tour comes to a close, we will gather in front of Turbaco’s Town Hall.
