Puerto Almanza & Punta Paraná Off-Roading Day Trip
Description
Tierra Mayor, Paso Garibaldi, Lake Fagnano, Punta Paraná... These are just a few highlights we will visit during our excursion in an off-roading vehicle to Puerto Almanza.
Activity Overview
If you find yourself in Ushuaia and are seeking an adventure, this itinerary is perfect for you. We will collect you from your hotel at the scheduled time and commence an exploration of the stunning landscapes of Tierra del Fuego.
Our small group tour, limited to a maximum of 8 participants, provides an opportunity to experience the key attractions of this region in Argentine Patagonia, renowned for its breathtaking mountains and lakes. Boarding our off-roading vehicle, we will venture away from Ushuaia, making our way to Punta Paraná.
To access this secluded location, our journey will begin with a picturesque route through the Carvajal and Tierra Mayor valleys, offering views of the Andes’ majestic scenery. A highlight during this segment includes a visit to a gin distillery and a museum showcasing vintage motorcycles.
Continuing our excursion in the off-roading vehicle, we will ascend to Paso Garibaldi. Make sure your camera is ready, as you’ll want to capture images of the Great Lakes! After navigating this famous mountain pass, we will enter a lush forest leading to Lake Fagnano. Here, we’ll disembark and take a stroll along the Sawmill Trail, making our way to the El Pampa shelter.
At this shelter, located just a short distance from Lake Escondido, you will get to enjoy a brunch featuring local delicacies. Once replenished, we will reconvene in the off-roading vehicle to set out on the King Crab Route, where you will have the chance to learn about the traditional practices of king crab fishing in the Beagle Channel. We will make stops at the Lasifashaj River and the Cerro Cornú viewpoint.
Next, we will proceed to Puerto Almanza for a river crossing that leads us to the charming fishing village of Punta Paraná, nestled between the sea and the woods. Fun fact: it’s known as one of the southernmost ports on the American continent.
At this point in our journey, a pause for lunch is probably welcome. We’ll head to the Los Notros restaurant, famous for its Fuegian cuisine, where you can enjoy a Patagonian lamb stew or, for a vegetarian option, a pumpkin soup with roasted pumpkin filled with vegetables and cheese baked to perfection. Both dishes come with a drink.
Once we’ve satisfied your appetite, you will have the opportunity to participate in an archery class. This engaging activity showcases one of the cultural traditions of Tierra del Fuego. It will be a memorable experience as you learn the fundamentals of this sport, connecting with the heritage of the indigenous peoples while embracing the surrounding nature.
After this enriching cultural experience, we will head back to Ushuaia, concluding our journey at your hotel approximately 9 hours after we began.
