Puerto Almanza, Lake Escondido & Lake Fagnano Off-Roading Vehicle Tour
Description
Embark on an adventure through the untamed and secluded landscapes of Tierra del Fuego with this thrilling off-road vehicle excursion to Puerto Almanza, Lago Escondido, and Lago Fagnano, departing from Ushuaia. Along the way, we will traverse the Garibaldi Pass, where you might even encounter local beavers!
Tour Overview
At the chosen time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Ushuaia to commence this exciting expedition. Traveling in an off-road vehicle, we will journey to the most captivating corners of the Grande Island of Tierra del Fuego, promising an unforgettable experience at the farthest point of the world!
Our first stop will be the Carbajal Valley, a vast depression shaped by glaciers, offering stunning views that resemble postcards, featuring lush peat bogs and striking mountain ranges. From this point, we will navigate through various ski resorts as we ascend toward the renowned Garibaldi Pass. Constructed in 1956, this pass marked a pivotal moment in the development of the island by linking Río Grande and Ushuaia.
Reaching the summit of Garibaldi at an elevation of 450 meters (1,476 feet), we will pause to soak in one of the most breathtaking views in the region: the scenic vista of Lakes Escondido and Fagnano, embraced by the majestic mountains of the Fuegian range. Lake Fagnano stands as the largest water body in Tierra del Fuego, nestled within the Corazón de la Isla Provincial Reserve, whereas Escondido is a smaller lagoon formed by glacial activity.
Our journey will then lead us to the enigmatic Victoria Lagoon, a tranquil waterway bordered by native flora, perfect for capturing beautiful photographs. This area is also ideal for spotting beavers and examining the impressive dams and lodges created by these industrious creatures.
Continuing toward the shores of the Beagle Channel, we will arrive at the quaint Puerto Alamanza, a fishing village recognized as a culinary hotspot. Here, you will have the opportunity to savor lunch at a local restaurant renowned for its Fuegian culinary delights. Enjoy a variety of freshly caught dishes from the channel, including king crab, Patagonian toothfish, and mussels, served with traditional homemade sides.
Post-lunch, we will set off back to Ushuaia while making stops at three notable sites in the area: the historic Harberton Estancia, the first ranch on the island established in 1886; the famed Puerto Pirata; and Punta Paraná, where you can gaze at the vast waters of the Beagle Channel.
The tour concludes at the starting point after an enriching 7.5 hours of exploration.
