2-Day Trekking to the Ojo del Albino Glacier

While in Ushuaia, seize the opportunity to embark on a two-day trekking adventure to the Ojo del Albino Glacier. Our overnight stay will be near the renowned Laguna Esmeralda. Be sure to have your hiking boots and cameras ready for this experience.

Trekking Breakdown

First Day

At the scheduled time, a pickup from your hotel in Ushuaia will commence as we journey towards Calle Belgrano. Once together, a brief orientation focusing on safety protocols will be held, along with a review of the trekking gear you've brought.

Subsequently, we will board the vehicle, heading to a pivotal part of the National Route 3, where the classic path to Laguna Esmeralda starts. This segment involves a 5-kilometre (3.1-mile) hike through a forest of native species, including southern beeches, lenga, and antarctic beeches, leading us to the mountain hut.

Upon arrival, a fulfilling dinner awaits, featuring a selection of ham, salami, olives, cheeses, and pickled aubergines followed by a lamb casserole, accompanied by wine, hot beverages, and a chocolate dessert—an enjoyable feast after a day of trekking!

After dinner, we'll set up our sleeping bags inside the hut. Until we meet again in the morning!

Second Day

We will kick off the day with a delightful breakfast comprising eggs, toast, ham, cheese, and fresh fruit. Refreshed, we will prepare to embark on the second trekking segment towards the Ojo del Albino Glacier.

The trek will take us around 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) along a trail featuring various inclines. A break will be taken for lunch, which includes soup and a ham and cheese sandwich. Continuing onward, the expanse of the landscape will grow, signaling our approach to the glacier.

Upon reaching our goal, we will raise a toast to celebrate our success at the glacier's edge and take in the stunning vistas of Tierra del Fuego. The photo opportunities here are incomparable! In the summer months, we will equip ourselves with crampons for an exhilarating climb up the glacier.

Our return journey will begin, including a stop at the Dome for a hot beverage. We will then cover the last 11 kilometres (6.8 miles) back to the National Route 3.

Ultimately, we will return to the vehicle for the ride back to your hotel in Ushuaia, with an expected arrival time around 6 pm.
