Puerto Almanza Tour + Martillo Island Penguin Watching

On this tour from Ushuaia, we will journey to Puerto Almanza to board a boat and sail along the Beagle Channel to Martillo Island. This adventure includes a penguin-watching activity.

Tour Details

At the designated time, we will meet on Avenida Prefectura Naval. After everyone has gathered, we will board a bus and leave Ushuaia, heading towards the well-known fishing village of Puerto Almanza, noted for its king crab catch.

During the ride, we will admire views of the Olivia River, Tierra Mayor Valley, and the impressive Andes Mountains. Our route will include a scenic winding road bordered by lenga and ñire forests, as well as peat bogs along the banks of the Lasifashaj River. This segment offers a great opportunity to appreciate the diverse landscapes of Tierra del Fuego!

Upon arrival at the pier in Puerto Almanza, we will board a rigid inflatable boat for a 30-minute sail along the iconic Beagle Channel to reach Martillo Island. We will pause for 40 minutes in front of the island to enjoy the penguin-watching experience from the boat.

A colony of Magellanic and Gentoo penguins resides on the island, flourishing due to three essential conditions: protection from predators, suitable nesting ground, and nearby food sources. This experience allows you to observe their natural behavior in the wild.

Finally, we will return to Puerto Almanza, where we will get back on the bus for the journey back to the starting point. The total duration of the tour will be approximately 5.5 hours.
