Admission to the Church of San Nicolás
The Church of San Nicolás stands out as one of Valencia's essential landmarks. Established over 700 years ago on the location of a Roman temple, it was gifted by King Jaime I of Aragon to the Dominican monks, who dedicated the building to Saint Nicholas.
This church exemplifies an exquisite fusion of Gothic architecture and Baroque embellishments. The significant transformation from Gothic to Baroque was especially evident during the 17th and 18th centuries, with softer arches, intricately frescoed vaults showcasing scenes from the lives of Saint Nicholas and Saint Peter the Martyr.
The striking artistry of this fresco cycle has earned the church the nickname of the Valencian Sistine Chapel, drawing comparisons to the famous chapel in Vatican City. The freshly restored frescoes enhance their allure for all who visit.
Your admission, complemented by an audio guide, will provide you with insights into the rich history of this remarkable Valencian Sistine Chapel and reveal the miracle that unfolded within its walls.
