Ragusa, Modica and Scicli Boat Day Trip
Description
Embark on a journey to unveil the Baroque treasures of Sicily with a captivating excursion to Ragusa, Modica, and Scicli departing from Malta via boat. This experience promises to be unforgettable!
Details of the Day Trip
At the designated time, we will convene at the Marsa Ferry Terminal. After gathering the group, we will board the vessel and commence our excursion to Ragusa, Modica, and Scicli. Let the adventure begin!
The ferry ride will transport us to the port of Pozzallo, located in the southern part of Sicily, covering a distance in about 1 hour and 45 minutes, all while enjoying the breathtaking Mediterranean vistas. Upon reaching Pozzallo, we will transition to a bus for a brief 40-minute journey to our first site: Ragusa.
Upon arrival, a guided tour lasting approximately 2 hours will immerse us in Ragusa Ibla, the historical heart of the city. We will meander through picturesque streets, taking in the grandeur of the Cathedral of San Giorgio, which graces the main square, while we uncover the effects of the catastrophic earthquake of 1693 on the city’s landscape.
Next, we’ll make our way to Modica, nestled within a stunning canyon. Its unique geography showcases magnificent stairways. We will have around two hours to wander through its charming streets and marvel at the exquisite Baroque structures.
Before we continue our exploration, some free time will be provided for you to enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant. Be sure to sample Modica's artisanal chocolate, a delicacy with roots tracing back to the Aztecs.
The final destination on our itinerary is Scicli, a delightful town renowned for its elegant squares and historic churches. In its center, you will find the Palazzo Beneventano, celebrated for its ornate sculptures and balconies. Additionally, the area's allure is amplified by its role as a prominent filming location for the acclaimed TV series Inspector Montalbano.
After our visit in Scicli, we will return to the port of Pozzallo to board the ferry back to Valletta, concluding a fulfilling day of exploration after approximately 9 hours together.
