Cachagua Island Penguin Watching

Our journey begins at 9 am when we will meet you at your hotel in Valparaíso and set off towards the north. As we traverse through the notable areas of Viña del Mar, Reñaca, and Concón, we will pass by the scenic mouth of the Aconcagua River.

After approximately one and a half hours traveling along the stunning Pacific coastline, we will reach the charming town of Zapallar. Here, we will board a fishing boat that will take us to Cachagua Island, home to one of the largest populations of Humboldt penguins in Chile.

During the hour-long boat ride, you'll have the opportunity to observe not only penguins but also a variety of coastal bird species, including pelicans, seagulls, and neotropic cormorants. Prepare to be amazed as you learn about the diverse wildlife cataloged in this vibrant ecosystem!

Upon completing our boat excursion, we’ll return to the dock at Zapallar. Once back on land, we'll visit a local empanada eatery to sample this beloved Chilean dish, accompanied by a refreshing drink of your choice, either soda or mineral water.

Finally, we will make our way back to Valparaíso, with an expected arrival time of 3 pm.

Animal Sightings

Cachagua Island is renowned as one of the prime locations on the Chilean coast for viewing Humboldt penguins. Nevertheless, wildlife appearances can be quite variable. The number of penguin sightings can be influenced by several conditions, including current weather and the breeding cycles of different species.
