Join us on a captivating day excursion from Verín to discover the picturesque town of Chaves and its nearby attractions. This journey will immerse you in the rich history and notable monuments that characterize this northern Portuguese destination.

Day Trip to Chaves

At the designated departure time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Verín. Our adventure will begin with a ride in a 4x4 vehicle or jeep as we cross into Portugal, reaching the charming town of Chaves in approximately 30 minutes.

Upon arrival, a leisurely walk will lead us through the town's most distinctive sites. Our exploration kicks off with the impressive medieval castle of Chaves. This historic fortress, which still features a well-preserved keep, also serves as a military museum. Its origins date back to pre-Roman times, and construction was enhanced during the era of Muslim rule.

Next, we will visit the exterior of the fortified structures of São Francisco and São Neutel, both of which were established as defensive fortifications in the 17th century. Our walk will continue to the magnificent Roman bridge over the Tâmega River, a remarkable construction ordered by Trajan, the prominent Hispano-Roman emperor. You’ll also discover the commemorative column, which bears inscriptions dating back to the end of the 1st century.

The tour will conclude with a visit to the renowned Roman thermal baths in Chaves, known for having some of the warmest medicinal waters in Europe.

After an enriching experience spanning 3 hours and 30 minutes, we will return to Verín and escort you back to your hotel.

Please keep in mind that hotel pickup is available for accommodations located within a 2-kilometer (1.2-mile) radius of Verín's center. If your lodging is situated outside this zone, you will need to proceed to the meeting point in Chaves, which is located at Alameda das Caldas, adjacent to the spa.
