Enjoy a day exploring one of the key Humboldt penguin habitats in Chile with our unique trip to Cachagua Island. Departing from Viña del Mar, you'll have the opportunity to observe these remarkable creatures in their natural setting.

Cachagua Island Penguin Expedition

Your adventure will commence at 9 am, with a convenient pickup from your accommodation in Viña del Mar as we head north. We will travel along a picturesque route adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, taking in views as we pass through Reñaca, Concón, and the entrance of the Aconcagua River.

Our journey will conclude at the charming coastal town of Zapallar, where we will boarding a fishing boat to embark on our maritime adventure. This vessel will ferry us to Cachagua Island, a pristine isle that hosts one of the most significant colonies of Humboldt penguins along the Chilean shoreline.

During the hour-long voyage, we will encounter a variety of wildlife, including pelicans, seagulls, and ducks native to this locale, alongside the sociable penguins. This area is remarkably rich in biodiversity, providing a home to numerous seabird species.

Your boat excursion will conclude at the Zapallar dock. Afterwards, we will visit a local empanada bar, where you can savor this traditional Chilean treat, complemented by a drink of your choice, either a soft drink or mineral water.

Once we finish our snack, we’ll transport you back to your hotel in Viña del Mar, aiming for a 3 pm drop-off.

Wildlife Viewing

Cachagua Island stands out as a premier location on the Chilean coast for observing Humboldt penguins. However, sightings can be unpredictable, as the number of penguins spotted varies due to several factors, including weather conditions and the different species' breeding and nurturing cycles.
