Beatrix Potter Lake District Tour
Description
Join us on a journey through the Lake District National Park, tracing the legacy of one of the UK's beloved children's authors. Venture into the landscapes that inspired the enchanting tales of Peter Rabbit!
Beatrix Potter Lake District Experience
The adventure commences at 9:05 am, where we'll gather at the Windermere train station. From there, we will board a comfortable minibus and set off towards Wray Castle, located a mere 20-minute drive away.
Upon arrival at this remarkable structure, managed by the National Trust, we will uncover the connections between Beatrix Potter and the idyllic surroundings of the Lake District. It was at this castle where the renowned creator of Peter Rabbit celebrated her 16th birthday, sparking a lifelong affection for the majestic mountains and serene lakes of Britain's largest national park.
After a moment of appreciation for this majestic 19th-century neo-Gothic castle, we will return to the minibus and continue onward to the charming village of Near Sawrey, the site of Beatrix Potter's marriage.
While strolling through Near Sawrey, we will identify locations depicted in several of Potter's book illustrations, including the historic Tower Bank Arms. This village is also home to Hill Top, the residence purchased with the earnings from her initial literary successes.
Next, we will visit Esthwaite Water, a hidden gem within the Lake District National Park that Beatrix Potter romantically described. Not far from here lies the quaint village of Hawkshead, where she met her husband, William Heelis.
The concluding segment of our tour will focus on the lands and farms that Beatrix Potter acquired over her lifetime. We will explore scenic locations such as Tarn Hows, Coniston Water, and Yewdale Valley, while discovering the backdrops that served as filming locations for the movie Miss Potter.
We will conclude our enriching experience at 1:05 pm, returning to our original meeting point.
