Brontë Sisters Tour
Description
Embark on a captivating Brontë Sisters tour, where the serene beauty of the Lake District unfolds before you, showcasing the stunning landscapes that inspired classics like Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
The Brontë Sisters Tour
Join us at 9 am at Station Precinct, and as we depart from Windermere, we will delve into Brontë Country, the enchanting region where these renowned authors were raised and found the muse for their works. For literature enthusiasts, this is an unmissable experience!
Our journey begins in the stunning vistas of the Lake District National Park, heralded as one of the UK’s most picturesque areas that profoundly influenced the writings of Emily, Charlotte, and Anne Brontë. Our first stop will be in the quaint village of Cowan Bridge, where the sisters attended the Clergy Daughter's School, an experience that left a lasting impact on their lives.
Continuing through Lancashire, we will trace Charlotte Brontë's footsteps, arriving at the village of Wycoller. This charming locale served as the inspiration for Ferndean Manor featured in Jane Eyre. As we wander the village, we will enjoy its rustic charm, cross its historic bridges, and discover the Gothic and Romanesque ruins that tell stories of the past.
Our next destination is Ponden Hall, a significant site in the Brontë legacy, which inspired Emily Brontë's depiction of Thrushcross Grange in Wuthering Heights. Interestingly, some argue that the hall more closely resembles the farm described in Anne Brontë's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Come and engage in this captivating discussion!
Next, we’ll arrive at Haworth, where we will visit the parsonage that housed the Brontë family. This delightful village celebrates its literary heritage in every aspect! Inside the Brontë Parsonage Museum, you’ll find the most extensive collection of the sisters' personal effects, including their furniture, garments, and cherished books.
As we conclude our exploration, we will pay our respects at the family cemetery, where all but Anne are laid to rest, as well as the Black Bull Inn, and the church where their father served for over 40 years. By the end of the tour, you will have gained a comprehensive understanding of their remarkable lives.
We will return to Windermere, bringing our tour to a close at 5:30 pm.
