Project Riese Tunnels & Gross-Rosen Concentration Camp Day Trip
Description
This day trip offers an exploration of the Nazi tunnels associated with Project Riese and a visit to the Gross-Rosen concentration camp located in Lower Silesia. An audio guide is included for your convenience.
Nazi Tunnels & Gross-Rosen Concentration Camp
We'll commence our journey by meeting at the designated hour in front of the New Horizons cinema in Wroc?aw, before departing for the Gross-Rosen State Museum. After an approximate travel time of 1.5 hours, we will reach this historical site, recognized as one of the most poignant locations in Lower Silesia.
Upon arrival, guests will receive tickets and audio guides. Before we begin exploring, a short introductory video will be shown, detailing the camp’s history, its operational methods, and the experiences faced by its prisoners.
With your audio device in hand, you'll have the opportunity to navigate the camp at your own pace. For about 2 to 2.5 hours, you will observe the significant sections of the site, characterized by the stark and functional architecture, designed for oppression and exploitation.
Your visit will include the barracks, the previous SS canteen, the crematoria, the memorial site, and the granite quarry that played a crucial role in the enforced labor system. The quarry was notorious for its severe conditions, where breaking spirits was an integral part of the oppressive regime.
Following this initial visit, we'll continue our journey for around 1 hour to Osówka, a segment of the elusive Project Riese. Before we enter, you'll be afforded 1 hour for leisurely lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Then, we will venture into the Nazi tunnels of Project Riese, where you will also explore on your own using the audio guide.
During a span of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, you will traverse through tunnels hewn from rock, subterranean chambers, and observation points. The true purpose of Project Riese remains ambiguous—whether it served as a secret military headquarters, a production facility, or a grand strategic refuge is still a mystery linked to the Third Reich.
Concluding our experience, we will return to Wroc?aw, parting ways at the initial gathering point after a full day of 8 hours.
