Tafí del Valle Condor Watching

During this excursion, participants will seek out Andean condors in Tafí del Valle, with planned stops at notable sites including the Monument to the Calchaquí Indian, El Mollar, and Cerro Infiernillo.

Activity Overview

Your experience begins with a timely hotel pickup, followed by a journey through the scenic Calchaquí Valleys until we arrive at the stunning Tafí del Valle. Prepare for an engaging day surrounded by nature, focusing on the majestic Andean condors!

We will traverse Aconquija National Park for approximately 1.5 hours, navigating a twisting road where lush greenery gradually thickens, signaling our approach to the yungas forest. Our first significant stop will be at the Monument to the Calchaquí Indian, where we can take a moment to enjoy breathtaking views from a lookout point. Remain alert as you might catch your first glimpse of a condor soaring gracefully!

After this viewpoint, we will head to El Mollar, located beside La Angostura Lake, where we will pause for about 1.5 hours. This tranquil setting offers an excellent opportunity to observe and photograph various riparian birds, including the great egret, Andean duck, and black-faced ibis, among others.

Following our birdwatching, we will proceed to the town of Tafí del Valle. Here, you will have around 1.5 hours to enjoy lunch at leisure against a backdrop of majestic mountains.

The next stop will be Cerro del Infiernillo, approximately a 20-minute ride away. We will allocate 45 minutes to 1 hour to explore this high vantage point, reaching an elevation of 9,842 ft (3,000 m) above sea level. The panorama here is wilder, and the skies clearer, providing the perfect setting for spotting the elusive Andean condor, often celebrated as the king of the skies.

As you observe these remarkable birds in flight, we will discuss their significance in Andean culture as a symbol of wisdom and strength. In their natural environment, it becomes evident why these magnificent creatures are so revered.

Finally, we will embark on our return journey, concluding the day with drop-off at your hotel after approximately 9 hours of exploration.
