Gyumri Day Trip
Description
Embark on a captivating journey from Yerevan as we head towards the northern region of Armenia, exploring the historical town of Gyumri and the renowned Black Fortress, associated with the Russian military.
Day Trip Overview
We will convene at Nalbanyan Street, 96 at the specified time. Our excursion begins with a drive from Armenia's capital to Gyumri, one of the country's prominent northern cities.
Upon reaching Gyumri, our first destination will be the Sev Berd fortress, also known as the Black Fortress. Here, we will explore the fortress's distinctive circular design and delve into its significance during the Russo-Turkish war of the early 19th century.
Next, our exploration continues at the Museum of National Architecture and Urban Life. Located in a striking red tuff mansion built by the merchant Petros Dzitoghtsyan in 1872, the museum houses a rich collection reflecting the daily experiences, culture, and historical narrative of Armenia.
We will then proceed to the city center, where we can stroll through the area to appreciate several of its oldest structures, outstanding examples of 19th-century architectural style. Following this, you will have 1 hour of free time to discover local attractions and savor some traditional Armenian dishes.
Before our return to Yerevan, we will take a 30-minute visit to the Harichavank monastery, perched on the western slopes of Mount Aragats, offering stunning vistas. This will be a perfect finale to our day of exploration!
Concluding our adventure, we will return to our original meeting point after approximately 10 to 11 hours together.
