Day Trip to Garni & Geghard
Description
Discover the historical richness of Armenia on this excursion that begins in Yerevan. This journey features a visit to the remarkable Garni Temple and the breathtaking Geghard Monastery. Don’t miss out on this incredible experience!
Tour Details
Our adventure kicks off at 96 Nalbandyan Street, located in the vibrant center of Yerevan, at the appointed time as we set off to uncover Armenia's cultural gems.
The first destination is Garni, situated approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) away from Yerevan. On our route, we will pause briefly at Charents Arch, a tribute built in 1957 to commemorate Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents. Here, you'll enjoy stunning vistas of the Ararat Valley and Mount Masis, appearing to hover on the horizon.
Upon arrival at the Garni Temple, experience a captivating fusion of Greco-Roman and Armenian design. This temple, strategically placed on a triangular plateau, serves as the last remnant of Armenia's ancient pagan heritage. During a one-hour guided exploration, delve into the ruins of the royal residence and its baths, which house a beautifully preserved mosaic.
If you join us between March 1 and November 15, we’ll also visit the Symphony of Stones, a fascinating natural feature. These uniquely shaped basalt columns, created from cooling lava, resemble a majestic stone cathedral sculpted by nature—truly a geological marvel!
Next, immerse yourself in Armenian culinary traditions with a lavash-making workshop. Over the next 40 minutes, you’ll master the ancient art of baking this traditional bread, concluding with a tasting of your freshly baked lavash accompanied by cheese and fresh herbs. A delightful treat!
After this tasty experience, our journey continues to the Geghard Monastery, an extraordinary 13th-century site intricately carved into the mountainside and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During our guided tour, you’ll discover the intriguing rock-hewn churches that define this landmark.
Concluding our tour, we will return to the original meeting point in Yerevan, rounding off an unforgettable five to six hours of exploration.
