Tour Overview

Day 1: Yogyakarta – Jombang – Mount Bromo

Your adventure through East Java's breathtaking volcanic landscapes kicks off with a pickup from your hotel in Yogyakarta, followed by a transfer to the local train station to board the train towards the east. During this approximately four-hour journey, take in the stunning natural scenery that Java offers. It’s fascinating to note the rich biodiversity found throughout the island.

Upon arriving at Jombang train station, you’ll continue your journey by bus to your accommodation, conveniently located near Mount Bromo. After enjoying a delightful meal that replenishes your energy, you'll have the remainder of the day to explore the surroundings. The superb location of your lodging offers spectacular views of the iconic volcanoes that Java is renowned for.

Day 2: Mount Bromo – Penanjakan – Ketapang

The second day begins early, with a meeting in the hotel lobby at dawn to board a specially outfitted Jeep headed for Penanjakan. You’ll be glad you rose with the sun as you witness the sunrise over the Tengger caldera. The sight of dawn breaking over the volcanic terrains near Mount Bromo, displaying hues of purple, orange, and red, is truly unforgettable.

After this incredible start, you will get the chance to observe Mount Bromo closely. Mount up on horseback for a scenic ride around the volcano and its majestic surrounding peaks. The horseback ride concludes at the base of Mount Penanjakan, where your Jeep awaits to take you back for breakfast at the hotel. After a substantial meal, you will depart from Bromo and journey towards Ketapang, situated on Java's eastern shore.

In Ketapang, savor a delectable lunch featuring local Indonesian specialties, and then enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure to explore the city. You’ll spend the night in this vibrant area, preparing for the adventures that await the following day.

Day 3: Ketapang – Ijen – Gilimanuk (Bali)

On the final day, another early rise awaits as your all-terrain Jeep retrieves you from your Ketapang hotel for more volcanic exploration. A two-hour drive leads you to the Paltuding Visitor Centre, setting the stage for a hiking expedition to Ijen's volcanic crater, a truly remarkable sight within East Java. Known for its dazzling turquoise lake, Ijen also occasionally hosts electric-blue flames that emerge from its lava, creating a stunning natural display.

While observing the blue lava isn’t possible for safety reasons, you will learn about its unique coloration. After the hike, descend back to Paltuding, where your Jeep will transport you back to Ketapang for a hearty breakfast at your hotel. Once refreshed and nourished, your journey continues to the nearby port for a ferry ride to Gilimanuk, located on Bali’s northwest coast. Following a brief 50-minute cruise, you’ll have the freedom to explore the enchanting Indonesian island at your own pace. Anticipate arriving in Bali around noon, although factors beyond our control may cause delays.

• Mount Bromo (first night): Stay at Lava View Lodge Hotel or a comparable establishment. From 2026, options will include Lereng Hotel Bromo, Terrace Bromo, or similar.
• Ketapang (second night): Stay at Ketapang Indah Hotel or a similar hotel.

• Entrance fees to national parks are not included in the tour price and must be paid at the entrance on the day of your visit.

Essential Information

For your safety, a medical certificate proving good health is required to undertake the Ijen volcano hike. This certificate can be arranged on the first day of the tour in Indonesia.
