Prison Island and Nakupenda Beach Trip

Did you know that Nakupenda translates to "I love you"? Discover the reason behind this on a picturesque beach and take a trip to Prison Island, where giant tortoises reside. This excursion in Zanzibar promises to be unforgettable!

Activity Overview

Your journey begins with a pickup from your Zanzibar hotel at the scheduled time. We will then proceed to the Forodhani port, where a boat awaits our arrival. Once aboard, we’ll set sail towards Prison Island.

After approximately 20 minutes gliding through the serene Indian Ocean, we will arrive at this historical location, referred to by the locals as Changuu Island. Historically, it served as a slave prison and a quarantine facility for yellow fever outbreaks.

This island is also recognized for its giant tortoise sanctuary, where tortoises imported from the Seychelles in the late 1800s now thrive. You are sure to be enchanted by these creatures! After exploring, we will return to our vessel and head towards Nakupenda Beach, where you will have around 2 hours of leisure time to bask in the Tanzanian sun or plunge into the clear waters.

Once this relaxing period concludes, we will savor a beach lunch featuring grilled fish, seafood, along with vegetables, fruits, and soft drinks.

After lunch, we will make our way back to the departure pier and subsequently return you to your hotel, wrapping up this delightful 8-hour experience.
