2-Day Trip to Colca Canyon

Discover one of the most remarkable canyons globally on this two-day excursion to Colca Canyon. This adventure perfectly blends breathtaking nature, rich culture, and thrilling experiences, featuring the majestic flight of condors alongside visits to quaint local communities. The journey ends in Cusco, allowing you to further explore Peru.

Details of the Journey

Day 1

We will commence our adventure by picking you up from your Arequipa hotel. Get ready to experience the beauty of the Colca Canyon.

Our first stop will be midway for breakfast, followed by continued travel in our minibus to the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, where we will arrive approximately 6 hours after departure. At this stunning location, we will revel in the breathtaking views of the Colca Canyon and, if we are fortunate, witness the magnificent condors soaring above.

Afterward, we shall resume our journey towards Chivay, making stops at charming villages and key viewpoints. At the Antahuilque and Choquetico viewpoints, we will observe Pre-Incan tombs and models, immersing ourselves in the striking scenery of the canyon. A special stop will be made in Maca, where we have the opportunity to connect with locals and gain insight into their vibrant traditions.

Before reaching Chivay, we’ll take a refreshing detour to the hot springs of Chacapi, providing you with 30 minutes to unwind in the warm waters. By midday, we will arrive in Chivay, where we will check into accommodations situated conveniently near the village’s main square.

The afternoon and evening are yours to explore. You can visit additional hot springs, engage in activities like quad biking, horseback riding, or ziplining, and sample the local cuisine or simply relax.

Day 2

Upon enjoying breakfast at your accommodation, we will set out towards the upper section of Colca Canyon. On our way, we’ll pass through the villages of Tuti and Sibayo and pause to take in the breathtaking Callalli's castles, a series of rock formations that resemble medieval fortifications, evoking the imagery of a fairy tale.

Our journey will take us alongside the Condroma Dam, which stands at an altitude of 4737 meters (15541 feet). Next, we will visit the Yauri Stone Forest before arriving at Langui Lake, a magnificent expanse of water measuring 25 km (15 miles) wide.

As this segment of the trip concludes, we will take a 50-minute break in the town of Sicuani for lunch. Refreshed, we will embark on a 3-hour journey towards Cusco, passing through the villages of Andahuaylillas and Urcos.

We will finish our adventure upon arrival in Cusco, bidding farewell in the historic center.

This excursion includes one night’s lodging with breakfast at Pandora Hostel (2 stars) or a comparable establishment.
