Your journey begins early in the morning with a pickup in Bucharest, leading you through picturesque landscapes and across the Danube River towards Veliko Tarnovo, where history awaits. As the ancient capital of Bulgaria during the Medieval era, this city served as a significant hub of cultural development in Europe. While you soak in the stunning architecture of the city’s historic center, your guide will share intriguing stories from its rich history.

Immerse yourself in the past by touring the Tsaravets Fortress, the former stronghold of the Bulgarian monarchy. This site is filled with history, allowing you to explore the remnants of ancient walls and royal chambers, along with notable religious sites like the Ascension Cathedral. From this vantage point, enjoy breathtaking views over Veliko Tarnovo. After gaining insights into Bulgarian heritage, you will have an hour to savor lunch in the city (meal not included).

Once your exploration of Veliko Tarnovo and lunch are complete, the trip continues to the city of Ruse, celebrated for its graceful Belle Époque architecture. A leisurely stroll through its streets will surely captivate you.

After a fulfilling day of historical sights and picturesque views, you will be returned to the designated pickup area in Bucharest, concluding the trip approximately 12 hours later.

Potential Itinerary Adjustments

Depending on traffic and religious observances, if time allows, we may replace the visit to Ruse with a trip to the Basarabovo Monastery, the only monastery in Bulgaria that is carved into a cliff, providing a distinctive and enriching experience.

Please be aware that ongoing construction may lead to increased traffic at the border crossing between Giurgiu and Ruse.
