Turtle Release Experience

After your pickup, we will head to Colotepec, a municipality located just 25 minutes from Puerto Escondido. The journey takes you through picturesque landscapes filled with papaya and banana plantations.

The tour will begin at the turtle protection centre, which is dedicated to one of the most endangered marine species. Four types of turtles nest on the Oaxaca coast: the Leatherback, Olive Ridley, Galápagos Green, and Hawksbill. Here, you will learn about the essential work being done to protect these species and actively participate in releasing the newly hatched turtles into the sea!

Your day will culminate with a beautiful sunset over Colotepec Beach. After this memorable experience, we will return to the hotels in Puerto Escondido.

Pickup Points

This tour includes pickup from the following areas:

• Puerto Escondido: from Hotel Villa Maria to Hotel Casablanca
• Zitcatela: from Bungalows Santa Cruz to Hotel Kootznoowoo
• Punta Zicatela: from Hotel Casa Menta to Hotel Frutas y Verduras

For those whose hotels are outside these areas, we will meet at Hotel Posada Real, located in Puerto Escondido.

Itinerary Changes

Depending on availability, the activity may take place at Colotepec Beach or at other nearby beaches.

HOW IT WORKS?

You will participate in a guided experience focused on the conservation of turtles. Upon pickup, travel to Colotepec, where you will engage with the turtle protection efforts and contribute to the release of hatchlings. The program includes transportation, entrance to the protection centre, educational information about turtle conservation, and the memorable experience of releasing turtles into the ocean.
