Kalinago Culture Tour

For those curious about the history and indigenous communities of Dominica, an exploration of the Kalinago culture tailored for cruise ship visitors promises a memorable journey. Disembark your vessel and engage in a profound cultural experience.

Tour Overview

At the designated time, we will gather at your chosen location in Roseau. Once everyone is present, we will board a minibus and travel to the northeast region of Dominica, home to the Kalinago Territory.

After approximately one hour on the road, we will reach the Kalinago Territory, inhabited by around 3,000 indigenous Kalinago. Throughout our visit, you will have the chance to meet local residents who will share insights about their way of life, history, and cultural heritage.

The first destination will be a local bakery, where you will discover the process of how the Kalinago prepare traditional bread—a delightful experience! Following this, we will proceed to a pottery workshop to learn about their historic pottery techniques. Should you wish, you can purchase a unique pottery piece. We will also visit a basket-making workshop to explore this distinctive craft.

Next, you will have the privilege of attending a live performance showcasing the Kalinago people's traditional dances. Watch as they express strength, power, and exuberance through their vibrant movements.

After this enriching cultural adventure, we will return to Roseau, concluding our excursion approximately 7 hours after it began.

• For those arriving at the Roseau Cruise Port, our meeting point is located in front of the Dominica Museum, just across Bay Street.
• If your cruise docks at Woodbridge Bay, we will gather at Exit 1 of the Woodbridge Bay dock.
