Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture and stunning landscapes of southern Peru with a day trip to Mollendo. This excursion offers an excellent opportunity to observe various protected bird species native to this charming region of the Andes.

Mollendo Day Trip

The journey begins at 7:40 am with a pickup from your location as we head towards Mollendo, situated approximately 124 miles (100 kilometers) from Arequipa. Our route will take us past the port of Matarni, recognized as the principal port serving southern Peru.

Upon arrival at the capital of the Islay province, you will be greeted by Mollendo's unique architecture. The combination of colonial-style mansions and pristine white beaches contributes to the town's distinctive coastal charm.

Your visit will include a stroll down Comercio Street, where iconic structures from the late 19th century are located. This period marked a significant growth phase for Mollendo, driven by the introduction of the railway.

Continuing on Mariscal Castilla Avenue, you will encounter buildings of notable historical significance, including Villa Velásquez, a mansion erected from pine in 1912. Another highlight along this avenue is the Church of the Immaculate Conception, renowned for its impressive twin towers.

The next highlight of our trip is the Ratti seafront. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline, the pier, the renowned Mollendo water park, and the historic Forga Castle. Interestingly, this castle has a counterpart located along the Moroccan coast.

After our exploration of Mollendo, we will enjoy a delightful lunch at a local restaurant. Following our meal, we will make our way back to Arequipa, ensuring you are returned to your hotel by approximately 5:30 pm.
