Your journey begins with a pickup at 10 am from your place of accommodation in Cerro de Pasco. Are you ready to explore the mining heart of Peru? The city's origins trace back to the 16th century, when it emerged as a mining community close to the former regional capital, Villa de Pasco.

The adventure kicks off in Chaupimarca square, home to the impressive church of San Miguel Arcángel. Established in 1827, this church is a treasure trove of colonial artifacts. Following this, we will stroll to Daniel Alcides Carrión square, where a monument commemorates the scientist renowned for his critical research on Carrión's disease, also known as the "Peruvian wart virus," which played a pivotal role in addressing this grave 19th-century health issue.

As we progress, we will take in notable structures that reflect Cerro de Pasco's mining heritage, including the Casa de Piedra or 'Stone House' and the Villa Minera, referred to as 'Mining Village'. Our next stop will be the renowned mining site of Cerro de Pasco, passing significant monuments such as Lourdes Castle and the Pasco Column along the way.

At this expansive open-pit mine, affectionately called "El Tajo" by locals due to its distinct appearance, we'll uncover the reasons behind Cerro de Pasco's critical role in the Peruvian mining sector. Since the colonial era, this area has been a source of gold, silver, copper, zinc, and lead.

To enrich your visit, we'll venture outside the city limits to see Carrión's house, a faithful replica of the residence of the revered "martyr of Peruvian medicine". This home is situated adjacent to a hospital bearing the same name.
